Dear Treasure,
By song, they saved the whales. What else can we save by listening?
While running on a treadmill, I listened to a podcast by The Daily titled, Whales Have An Alphabet. Turns out whales have an alphabet!
And that’s exciting.
But what truly stood out in the podcast was an anecdote about the discovery of whale sounds.
Decades ago, an engineer in Bermuda, stumbled upon whale sounds.
The engineer collaborated with scientists, who studied these sounds. In 1970, one of the scientists, Dr. Payne, produced the acclaimed record, "Songs of the Humpback Whale."
Not only did these whale songs top the charts, but they also inspired the world to take action to save the whales.
As a result, whale conservation efforts grew exponentially!
Whales are alive and they’re singing.
Hearing them ignited an urge to protect them.
That really inspired me to think about who else, and what else, needs us to listen to their song.
How if we saw each other as alive and singing, then maybe we’d fight harder for one another to survive.
What inspired you this week? 💌
